Welcome, this is my blog where I plan to discuss all things financial independence. This blog is for those of us who want take back some of our freedom that the dollar has over us. There are so many things that this world has to offer to us, why would I want to spend the majority of it feeling trapped due to the need to work. So I figured I would try and help some others along the way while I continue my journey to FI.
I’m starting this blog for a few reasons:
1. To prove to myself that I can.
2. To hold myself accountable to continue on my path to financial independence and further my pursuit for knowledge.
3. To document my own journey to financial independence and observe how my own thoughts evolve over time
4. To offer myself a safe place I can talk, rant, educate, and discuss all things money, investing, credit cards, housing, and life without pissing my friends and family off any further. For real, you are all welcome!
5. Hopefully, to provide some insight or knowledge to others curious about this movement or provide a different viewpoint to someone who may already be on their own journey.
So who am I?
I’m a 27 year old physical therapist from the Midwest. I have been working for around the last year and half and only recently did I begin my journey to FI around the start of 2018. I love my job as a therapist but have always been drawn to the idea of working because I want to and not because I have to. But let’s back up.
I think (know) that I have naturally been frugal my whole life, sometimes to the point of endless teasing from my friends. I also know I’m not cut out to work my whole life which when talked about out loud draws some odd looks at family get togethers. I wasn’t sure why I was frugal or why work didn’t appeal to me the way it did in people around me, but that was me. I had no plan for my savings, no plan to stop working or any financial direction at all for that matter, until…
Cue FI
I stumbled into the world of financial independence. This movement was exactly what I needed and wanted even though I didn’t know I needed or wanted it. It finally gave me some direction for my life in a community full of like-minded people. In quite possibly one of the more boring topics you can find (finances), I was hooked. Now it’s time to break free from the societal norms of working your whole life and falling for the traps of consumerism. I have set goals for myself to retire by the age of 40 so that I can travel, learn, and create with the new found time that financial independence offers.
Hopefully, this will be the start to something fun! I plan to design this blog as my journey to FI while exploring and talking about different topics related to finances. With any luck, I hope to help a few people along the way.
